1980s favourite New Kids On The Block received the highest Hollywood tribute on Friday.
The big boy band from Boston made thousands of adoring fans very happy as they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood all showed up looking sharp, much to the delight of thousands of screaming onlookers.
Wearing matching suit jackets, the boys looked smart as they posed next to their new star, each with a pink bow pinned to their lapels.
‘We’ve been together for pretty much 30 years,’ said Wahlberg. ‘We’ve been friends for longer. We’ve been through the droughts of droughts, the highs of highs. We’ve been through things that most people could never imagine.
‘I think I speak for all of us in saying that I would not have wanted to spend one moment of the last 33 years doing this with anyone besides this team right here.’
After the band was formed in 1984, they released a self-titled flop debut in 1986. But its popularity grew with the 1988 release of the ballad single Please Don’t Go Girl.
Its breakout album that year, Hangin’ Tough, turned them into bona fide superstars and the group went on to win key awards at myriad musical award shows, including favourite pop/rock band in 1990 at the American Music Awards.
After the public’s changing musical tastes and going their own way for different projects, they reunited in 2007 for a new album titled The Block, which debuted at No. 2.
And in 2013, they released their sixth studio album and also toured with fellow boy band giants 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men.
As for their lives now, Wahlberg is probably the most well known thanks to his starring role on CBS hit Blue Bloods and the reality show Wahlbergers.
He teared up while telling the crowd, ‘You are our family. If we are the star that’s gonna be on this famed boulevard, then you guys are the soil and the concrete.’
And Jordan Knight is busy with his band NIck and Knight, featuring popular Backstreet Boy Nick Carter.
NKOTB was created by legendary producer and songwriter Maurice Starr who also discovered smooth R&B fave New Edition. He was there along with Wahlberg’s new wife, Jenny McCarthy.
By the way – in case you are counting, that makes 2,530 artists that have received stars lining the streets of Hollywood.
