Mark W. Lippert was rushed to a nearby hospital and appeared to be splattered with blood but was on his feet, Yonhap reported.
He was on his way to attend a morning lecture in central Seoul when the attack took place. (See Video Below)
Reports are coming from Seoul that he was slashed with razor blades and the attacker was yelling that North and South Korea should be united.
Several details, including the nature of the attack, a motive or who was behind it, were not immediately clear.
Lippert was confirmed as the ambassador in September.
Mark William Lippert (born February 28, 1973) is the current United States Ambassador to South Korea. He was formerly the Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense, and previously served as Chief of Staff for the National Security Council and as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs in the Department of Defense.
