As tens of thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing from the fighting and ISIS head north to Europe, paticularly Germany the Pope this Sunday called upon Catholics in the EU to accept the Refugees.
Thousands of refugees sat waiting blocked from entry to the rest of the EU by Hungary finally let some of them in by bus while thousands of others are walking to Germany.
Pope Francis who has interjected himself into many political and ethical debates across the world delivered a message this past Sunday saying,
“Facing the tragedy of tens of thousands of refugees — fleeing death by war and famine, and journeying towards the hope of life — the Gospel calls, asking of us to be close to the smallest and forsaken. To give them a concrete hope,” he said. “And not just to tell them: ‘Have courage, be patient!’ ”
It is unclear if Catholics across the EU will heed his call, and furthermore, can the countries like Germany take on several thousand more refugees when almost 30% of Germans are currently unemployed in a stagnent economy.
